1/4/14

1/4/14 Today is the  day #1 of our adventure. On the road at 8am and the temperature is  27 brrrrr.  Stopped in Drain, Oregon for lunch (see Mr. Monkey on the hood waiting for us? We really need a name for him).

Stopped at Umpqua Lighthouse and had an incredible tour by the lighthouse keeper.
During the summer of 1849 the Coast Survey, headed by Alexander D. Bache, set out along the unmarked west coast to determine the most beneficial locations for lighthouses . The Umpqua River mouth was selected as one of the six cities on the Oregon Territory, which included the modern States of of Oregon and Washington.

Spending the night in Brookings and it is 57 degrees. Shorts and flip flops tomorrow!!

to be continued.....
