El Triunfo
In 1862 mineral deposit were discovered and the Progresso Mining Company arrived in 1878, bringing thousands of workers from Europe and China. A thriving mining town emerged with a population of 10,000-today the sign says 300- . The miners built towering smokestacks the largest is La Ramona which is 10 stories high. It is amazing that they made all the bricks and built this
incredible structure. In the smokestack about 3/4 of the way up rocks are placed that say 1890.
The town prospered until a hurricane flooded the mine in 1918 and by 1926 the mine closed and the town was almost abandoned.
